Hopefree

(531)  Tomare dekhechi jabe canpara vane

When I saw You inside the champak garden,
Until then under the petals nectar was hidden.
Why kept You seated lackadaisically
As hope-filled eyes gazed Your way in vain?

Having stepped on fallen leaves intentionally,
That hearing the sound You'd wonder who had come,
Until that time my lamp of hope was still alight.

Abrim with bashful sweetness, I was striding slowly;
Hope remained, although You failed to look at me.
Up to then, on flower petals a scent was there.
