Hola

(1800)  Ei kusumita viithika dhare

Along this same avenue, blossoming,
I had noticed You'd appeared.
On a throat, Your brief ode filling,
You had smiled tenderly.

Strewn beneath the tree were Spanish cherry flowers,
Tiny though they be, they carry a scent unequaled.
Taking them for Your sake, I have strung a garland;
And You had worn it.

At foot of the shrub, night jasmine were fallen,
In the autumn season, dew-dampened.
The garland was not strung, but You left,
Myself abandoning on what pretext?
